The Significance of the Kokrajhar Literary Festival

To celebrate the magic of the written word, the Government of the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) and the organizers of the 3rd Kokrajhar Literary Festival have announced the creation of the prestigious Gaurang River Literary Prize. Each year, during the Kokrajhar Literary Festival, one full-length work of fiction and another of narrative non-fiction will be honored with this distinguished award.

The Gaurang River Literary Prize is set to include a generous cash award of Rs. 50,000/- along with a beautifully crafted trophy, making it one of the most coveted literary honors in the region. This initiative underscores the festival’s commitment to recognizing and rewarding literary excellence.

True to the rich traditions of creativity and acknowledging the long and chequered history of Bodoland, the Gaurang River Literary Prize aims to celebrate works that are a medley of brilliant craft, deep analysis, and socially concerned storytelling that respond to our contemporary times. This award is not just about recognizing literary prowess but also about celebrating narratives that resonate with the cultural and social fabric of the region.

Both novels and narrative non-fiction works, whether originally published in English or translated into English, will be considered for the prize. The announcement of the winning books will take place on 29 January 2024, during the Kokrajhar Literary Festival at Kokrajhar, Bodoland Territorial Region, adding a thrilling climax to the festival’s events.
